Where to stay

Staying in Sozopol for Eurovision 2027

An old town of wooden houses south of Burgas, quieter and smaller than the resort strip, and priced accordingly higher per night. It is also the longest late-night return of the four bases.

The short version

Sozopol is quiet, small and south of Burgas, roughly 40 to 50 minutes from the arena. It sits against the resort strip's direction, which makes the return trip after a show the longest of the four bases.

What Sozopol is

An old town of wooden houses on a small peninsula south of Burgas, smaller and quieter than Sunny Beach or Nessebar, and priced accordingly higher per night for what it offers.

Sozopol is one of the oldest towns on the Bulgarian coast, and it reads that way: narrow lanes, a working fishing harbour, and none of the high-rise development that defines Sunny Beach. It is a genuinely appealing base for a quiet coastal stay, and that is a fair reason to choose it on its own terms.

The honest caveat for contest week specifically is geography. Every other base on this page sits north of Burgas, on the same side as the main resort strip. Sozopol sits south, so it is structurally disconnected from wherever demand, and any shuttle route, concentrates.

Getting to the arena from Sozopol

Arena Burgas is ~34 km away, a 40 to 50 minute drive off-peak. The return trip after a show ending near midnight is the longest and least straightforward of the four bases.

Scheduled buses stop running well before a late show ends, and unlike Sunny Beach and Nessebar, Sozopol is against the direction a northbound arena shuttle is expected to run, so it may not be on the route at all. If you are staying here, a pre-booked private transfer with an agreed wait policy is the more reliable plan. The full breakdown of options is on getting to Arena Burgas, and route coverage for the arena shuttle is confirmed once the operator is contracted.

Getting here from the airport

Burgas Airport to Sozopol is ~45 km, a 45 to 55 minute drive off-peak, routing through or around Burgas city.

General arrivals information, what is available at the terminal and what to expect from the taxi rank, is on Burgas Airport.

What is around on non-show days

Sozopol's own old town fills a non-show day on its own, and Burgas city is the nearer trip out for anyone based here, rather than Nessebar or Sunny Beach further north.

What fills the two free days in contest week, including options in Burgas itself, is on Burgas on non-show days.

Common questions

Is Sozopol a good base for Eurovision 2027?
It is the quietest of the four bases and a genuinely attractive old town, but it sits south of Burgas, against the direction the resort strip and any shuttle route run. That makes it the longest and least convenient return journey after a late show.
How far is Sozopol from Arena Burgas?
~34 km, about 40 to 50 minutes by car off-peak, a similar distance to Sunny Beach but on the opposite side of the city.
Why is Sozopol described as the wrong side of Burgas?
The main resort strip, Nessebar and Sunny Beach, sits north of Burgas, and any arena shuttle is expected to run that way. Sozopol is south, so getting back there after a show means going against, not with, the flow of the contest crowd.
