What the taxi actually costs versus what you will be quoted
Every licensed Bulgarian taxi displays its per-kilometre tariff on a sticker in the rear side window. The metered fare for this route is a function of that number and 30 km. Any flat price offered before you get in is a negotiation, not a fare.
The pattern at Burgas Airport is not subtle and it is not unique to Bulgaria. A driver approaches inside or just outside the terminal, offers a flat price to Sunny Beach, and the number is a multiple of the metered fare. The defence is equally simple.
- Use the official rank outside the terminal, not a driver who approaches you inside it.
- Read the tariff sticker in the rear window before you load your bags. Day rate and night rate are both on it.
- Confirm the meter is running and visible when you set off.
- Refuse a flat price. If the driver will not use the meter, take the next car.
- Pay in euro and check the change. Bulgaria uses the euro, adopted on 2026-01-01.
None of this requires confrontation. Asking "meter, please" before opening the boot resolves it almost every time, because the driver who intended a flat price simply waves the next passenger forward. Public transport, honestly
There is no reliable single direct bus. The public route is a city service from the airport into Burgas, then a coastal service north to Sunny Beach. One change, over an hour, and very little luggage space.
It is genuinely cheap and it genuinely works, and for one person with a rucksack arriving at two in the afternoon it is a reasonable choice. For a family with three suitcases arriving at 23:00 in the first week of May it is not, and the aggregator pages that list it as an equal option are not being straight with you.
Bulgarian coastal bus timetables for the summer are published in spring, and services in early May run at a lower frequency than the July timetable most search results are describing. Eurovision falls in the first half of May, which is the good news: you are arriving before the coast's transport system is under its summer load. The bad news is that the same shoulder season means fewer flights, fewer buses and fewer drivers on shift.
Booking a transfer with us
Transfers are not on sale yet. We are contracting a local operator for the 2027 season, with fixed prices published before booking opens. Nothing is taken until then.
