What Burgas Airport is

Burgas Airport (IATA: BOJ, ICAO: LBBG) is a single regional airport on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, serving Burgas city and the resort towns to its north and south.

It is the only realistic air arrival point for a Eurovision trip based on this coast. Sofia and Varna are both usable fallbacks, but both add a domestic connection or several hours on the road, covered in the seasonality section below.

Arrivals

Arrivals at a seasonal regional airport are simple. Most flights are charter or low-cost European services, and passport control and baggage reclaim are generally quick outside peak turnaround times.

A regional charter airport does not run at the frequency of a major hub, which cuts both ways: fewer flights means shorter queues at passport control and baggage reclaim, but it also means fewer staffed desks and less flexibility if your flight is delayed or your onward transport was timed tightly against it.

The May seasonality problem

Most routes into Burgas are heavily seasonal, building up through late May rather than from the first of the month. Eurovision falls in early May, so check your specific route is flying.

This is the one honest warning on this page. Heavily seasonal. Most UK, DE and PL routes run late May to early October. A route that runs weekly through the summer may not have started its season yet in early May, and a route that runs from late May will not exist at all for a contest in the first half of the month.

Getting out: taxi, bus and transfer

Three ways to leave the terminal: the official taxi rank, a city bus of unconfirmed number and timetable, or a pre-booked private transfer. The rank is where visitors most often overpay.

Use the official rank outside the terminal rather than a driver who approaches you inside it. Every licensed taxi displays its tariff on a sticker in the rear window, and the metered fare is the only fare you should pay. A city bus line has historically connected the airport with Burgas centre. The number, fare and timetable for 2027 are not confirmed: To be confirmed. A pre-booked private transfer avoids both problems, at a price we publish once an operator is contracted.

By rail

There is no railway station at Burgas Airport. The rail head is Burgas Central, in the city, reached from the airport by taxi, bus or transfer.
